Designed for families by families who support meltdown and dysregulation.
To support workers who need space around them to 'just be' with a child experiencing meltdown, fear or a trauma response.
To support those that look on where you cannot explain with words.
Where you need to limit the overwhelm, where your child is refusing the demand, where your child is in a meltdown..... where you need people to support but not blame, where you need careful consideration of needs...
....where you need people to keep calm, keep an eye on you but to carry on!
Discretly handed over to those who might be watching a meltdown (adding to the demand) or placed on the next table in a coffee shop, in a supermarket shopping queue or somewhere where your child is having time out ..... lets give positive communication to someone that might misinterpret what is happening.
Parents who have fedback to us say..
"I have not only found this great for me but often I am with my other children which has massively helped them. We used to be embarrassed at the amount of onlookers who watch me in my daughters meltdown, we have had tutting, shaking of heads and people coming up to us saying inappropriate things, which is really triggering & shaming. My eldest son now keeps this little card in his pocket. He told me 'Even if I dont have to use it Mum it gives me confidence that I can help you when she has a meltdown'. I literally am never without this card now!" Jenny
"The boy I look after often bashes the table in a cafe or will swear as he has Tourettes.... on a difficult day I have it in my bag ready to give to the people on the next table, it changes everything where people are first of all educated and then totally get it. Thank you it has given me confidence to go out more but also raise awareness locally!" James
"My son struggles to leave many places we go to, yesterday I went to the swimming pool where he was building his fizzy bottle. I tuned in it was going to be difficult, so I caught the eye of the receptionist and dicretely gave her the card.
Whilst I was waiting for my son to calm I could see the swimming instructor and the receptionist moving a few people gently out of the way which quickly made a quieter room.
It was like a magic wand as my son switched quickly and then we went outside.
Next time we went swimming I the receptionist recognised us, she talked slowly to my son where he chatted back... first time ever!
The swimming instructor really took his time to explain everything very carefully, repeating things in the same way and not putting too much demand on him.
When I sat in the coffee shop drinking my tea I actually took a breath... and tasted the tea!
Thank you, I could never have imagined how something so small can work in such a powerful way!" Caroline
