Autism Informed Dental Card is a simple advocacy tool designed to help autistic people, families and carers communicate important needs before and during dental appointments. It can be shown to dental teams (ideally given discretely to the receptionist to give to the dentist) to highlight sensory sensitivities, communication preferences, anxiety triggers, the need for extra time, breaks, clear explanations or reasonable adjustments. Compact and easy to carry, the card helps reduce stress, support safer treatment and encourage calm, respectful and autism-informed dental care.

Feedback from our community..

Carers:
"This card helped the dental team understand before the appointment even began. It meant I did not have to explain everything while trying to keep the person I care for calm."

Lucy
"It made the appointment feel less rushed. The dentist knew to give extra time, explain each step and allow breaks, which made such a difference."

James
"As a carer, the card gave me confidence to ask for adjustments without feeling awkward. It helped the dental team respond with patience and understanding."

Penny

Adults with autism:
"Dental appointments can be overwhelming for me. The small room, the smells, people touching me. Having the card means I can show what I need without having to explain it when I am already anxious. I love it!"

Elaine
"It helps the dentist understand that I may need clear instructions, extra processing time and a break if things become too much. He was really good at showing me things before they go in my mouth, seems such a simple thing but totally made all the difference to me"

Edward
"The card makes me feel more in control. It lets the dental team know what helps me stay calm and what can make the appointment harder."

Darcy
"I felt listened to before treatment started. The card helped the dentist slow down, explain what was happening and check I was ready."

Bill
