Our Autism Informed Medical Card is a simple advocacy and communication tool designed to help autistic people, families and carers share important medical, sensory and communication needs with health professionals. It can be tucked into a lanyard for emergencies, carried in a purse or wallet, or included in individual health plans to support clearer communication and reasonable adjustments during appointments, treatment or unexpected medical situations. Compact and easy to use, the card helps reduce stress, improve understanding and support safer, more autism-informed care.

Feedback from our community adults with autism:

"Medical appointments can be overwhelming, especially when I am anxious or in pain. Having the card means I can show what I need without having to explain everything out loud."

Jo
"I was so totally fed up with no one tuning into me. Like really! It helps health professionals understand that I may need clear explanations, extra processing time and a quieter approach before treatment or checks begin. In an emergency, I may not be able to communicate properly. Knowing the card is in my lanyard gives me reassurance that people can still understand how to support me. Huge thanks"

Daisy

From carers and families:
"As a carer, this card helps me explain important needs quickly when appointments are stressful or rushed. It supports better understanding from the start."

Jack
"Including the card in an individual health plan means key information is easy to find and consistent across different professionals and settings."

Helen

"It has made hospital visits feel more manageable. Bit of an immediate game changer we were not ready for where we were asked what his communication preferences were! Someone considered his sensory needs by dimming the lights before we went in the room, hugely helped and made me feel less anxious too. Best £2.50 I have ever spent! It gives us peace of mind knowing the card can be kept in a lanyard, purse or wallet so vital communication information is available if words are difficult or impossible. I have given all the people we are having the appointment with so they remember next time!"
