This course is for you if are an independent advocate for individuals or carers supporting prenatal alcohol exposure, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
You may work for an organisation or you might be a carer, family member, friend or work colleague of someone with or supporting Prenatal Alcohol Exposure, FASD.
In navigating systems like social care, education, or legal proceedings it is essential to understand the complexities of the most severe of the neurodevelopmental disorders in terms of its far-reaching impact on functioning across the lifespan, and requires a unique approach to support and understanding.
Those who are not appropriately trained or knowledgeable can often make assumptions due to the fact that many individuals with FASD can superficially present as more able than they actually are or where their ‘symptoms’ are misinterpreted as ‘behaviour’ due to spiky cognitive and neurodevelopmental profile.
Aim: To provide an overview of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Positive Behaviour Support, Communication & Challenging Behaviour

The impact of alcohol on the brain and its vulnerabilities
